I have PC with 2 DVD roms (1 of them is DVD RW). I made Mandrake 10.2 installation DVD, but it boots only from DVD RW and not with ordinary DVD rom. So I installed Mandrake and all was OK, but now I want add some software packages form my install DVD. And now is problem: Mandrake offers me access only to DVD rom, but not to DVD RW. Original Mandrake-made DVD rom: URL: file:/removable/mnt/cdrom/media/main un synthesis/hdlist: ../../media/media_info/hdlist1.cz I tried to add my DVD RW: URL: file:/removable/mnt/cdrom2/media/main and synthesis/hdlist same as Mandrake made. But it did not help.
Please help.
because if you have one, you should/must set up your urpmi-repositories. the easiest way to do that is follow the instructions on http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/
after doing this, go to your mandrake control center, remove your dvd from your repositories. now you can install additional software without using your dvd (by using your mandrake control center (it also works in the shell with the urpmi <package-name> command (as root)(sorry about the amount of () ;-)).
if you dont have broadband, i will have a closer look at your problem and answer tomorrow again
Thanks for your answer robattack!
Yes, I have brodband connection and I made my urpmi staff and I succsefully install my packages, thanks, but.....I want be able to use my install DVD as a source. Can it be done somehow?
ok, urpmi is set up and working, thats fine.
I'm not sure about your dvd-drive-problem. :-(
have you tried, if you are able to browse the installation-dvd with your (default) file-browser. insert your dvd in your drive(s). it should be mountet automatically. now try to browse it with your file manager (for example konqueror in kde). compare the path of your dvd-drive and the relative path of the hdlist.cz/synthesis that you can see by browsing the dvd, with the ones in your mandrake control center installation media panel (sorry, i dont know what its called in english, but i hope you know what i mean).
also have a look if your dvd-drives a recocnized correctly (mandrake control center --> hardware and mountpoints (you can also look in your /etc/fstab file)
ok, so i hope that will give us a hint. keep me updated
hello Robattack!
To make Mandrake DVD drives work I made couple experiments, but...I had bad luck...
When I installed Mandrake I picked only GNOME (no KDE applications at all). It was mistake.
I still no understand what I did wrong, but konqueror installation ended with very bad result: GNOME application menus become responsible. I was able to use only desktop shortcuts. Then I thought that may be I can use console to make system work again, but it end up with complete system crash.
Now I thinking what to do: try to install Mandrake one more time or change to SUSE 9.2
May be you can suggest me something?
