Problems with openoffice.org-filter-binfilter, refusing to install/uninstall

Just fell-out with Bill Gates, and have since met 'interesting' issues around here...

openoffice.org filter binfilter shows up on synaptic package manager as a recommended update, but refuses to install, says its a broken package, refuses to be fixed through the package managers ' fix broken packages' under edit, when i try to install it using the package manager, it produces the following error:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-filter-binfilter_1%3a2.4.1-1ubuntu2_i386.deb: short read in buffer_copy (backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/lib/openoffice/program/libbf_xo680li.so')

when i run 'sudo apt-get -f install' , i get:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Correcting dependencies...Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
openoffice.org-filter-binfilter
The following NEW packages will be installed
openoffice.org-filter-binfilter
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the download directory

when i run 'sudo apt-get -f update && sudo apt-get -f upgrade', i get

..
..

The following NEW packages will be installed
openoffice.org-filter-binfilter
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the download directory

Then when i try, "sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org-unbundled"(or sudo apt-get -f remove openoffice.org-unbundled), i get

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting openoffice.org-debian-menus for regex ‘openoffice.org-unbundled’
Package openoffice.org-debian-menus is not installed, so not removed
You might want to run ‘apt-get -f install’ to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
openoffice.org: Depends: openoffice.org-filter-binfilter but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try ‘apt-get -f install’ with no packages (or specify a solution).

or if i try 'sudo apt-get -f install openoffice.org-core', i get

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
openoffice.org-core is already the newest version.

So, I'm completely new to all this, and i'm failing to install anything else, Java which i really need, let alone a driver for my canon ip1000 printer...could somebody please help??
