Problems with mounting usb with uuid

Hello!

I am trying to mount a usb stick. Linux assigned /dev/sdb1 to it. But when i plug in more external drives it becomes /dev/sdc1 or something. So i decided to start using uuid.

So i typed in the terminal

Code:
  sudo vol_id -u /dev/sdb1
It returns "8500-1CE9"

Huh? Shouldn't it be a 35 digit number.

Anyway I configered my fstab like this:
UUID=8500-1CE9 /media/usb vfat noauto,user 0 0

But i am not allowed to mount the usb.

When i change to (only changin uuid=... to /dev/...
/dev/sdb1 /media/usb vfat noauto,user 0 0

I can mount.

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Okay, so that is the actual UUID. What message do you get when you try to mount it? Anything from the kernel buffer to shed any light on it?

Thunar autodetects the drive. But says:

Failed to mount "4G Removable Volume".
You are not privileged to mount the volume "4G Removable Volume".

Omg, i figured it out. It's pretty stupid.

Using the command in the terminal you get:
7B99-B5BA

But fstab needs lower case like this:
7b99-b5ba

And it works! Thanks for the replies!
