Kubuntu crashed my computer now nothing will boot. Please Help

Ok, I am fairly new to linux and first installed ubuntu on my computer. Ran great but I did not like the gnome feel to everything so I later installed kubuntu.

Now Kubuntu ran great for a good two weeks. Had no problems with it what-so-ever (aside from not getting realplayer to download and install right) but all of a sudden everything on the screen just froze. Nothing worked, no keyboard, mouse, nothing. So I het the power button on my computer and try rebooting.

when I turned the power button back on nothing came up. not even the compaq screen.

Well I was a little fustrated but no big deal. I pulled out another computer shell. Transfered some ram and ethernet cards over and such and installed kubuntu on that computer (it was an hp).

Had no problems at first but when I was updating and installing everything and froze again and the same thing happen to me. This the hp screen would not come on at all.

I am completely perplexed by this and any help that can be given would be much appreciated. My wife likes using the upstairs computer (my windows box is downstairs) but now it just sucks that I am down two computers.

Maybe you have a bad CD? If Ubuntu worked on your computer, you can just install Ubuntu and then download the KDE desktop--that's the same as Kubuntu. This is what the Kubuntu website says:

"Kubuntu is the first Ubuntu derived distribution. Our Kubuntu CDs are made up of Ubuntu's base plus KDE. You can get exactly the same effect by installing Ubuntu and adding the KDE packages (and removing the Gnome packages) from the Ubuntu archives."

Maybe, it had already installed to my Hard drive but now the problem is I cannot even boot from any media, cd, floppy, nothing.

So now our BIOS is screwed up? Can't help you there.

Hi,

Are you able at all to access your system BIOS when you boot up the P.C?

If you, try resetting it to default. Other advice wouldbe possibly updating your BIOS if your mother board supports that feature.

Let us all know :)
