Problems with internet connection in gNewSense linux (Eth card: BroadCom Netlink BCM5784)

Hi I just installed gewsense on my dell studio xps. I have a dual boot with windows vista. Problem is I cant get the internet to work via lan or wireless. I have read it could be incompatibility with my hardware but wanted to know what can I do to troubleshoot and resolve.

thanks!

Welcome to LQ elilamar!

It will help us to know the network card on your machine. Please post the output of (you may need to be root)

Code:

lspci -nn | grep Ethernet
Keep in mind that gNewSense is a completely free (as in speech&beer) GNU/Linux distribution. Many drivers, especially wireless, require non-free drivers and you will likely have to install these yourself. This makes the jump into Linux a little more difficult, though for some people this is what it is important to them.

Hopefully we can help more when we know a little more about your system.

Thanks Awatto, I am excited to learn Linux. I ran the code and this is what I got":
BroadCom Corporation Netlink BCM5784M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe [14e4:1698] (rev10)
