Problems with installing rpm pakages

I have just downloaded a rpm package to play movie files. It's called xine. The file is called "xine-lib-1.0.0-0.2.rc1.fr.src.rpm". But I can't install it in RH9. It says it can't read the package or I don't have enough permission to open it. However I logged in as root.
Can anyone tell me how I can do it?

as root type rpm -Uvh <packagename>.rpm and it should do it.

You might have some dependencies to resolve but it's not a problem.

.src.rpm packages have to be rebuilt (the .src. stands for source)

so the command is

rpmbuild --rebuild name.of.package.src.rpm

this needs to be done as root

when the process has finished the built package will be found in
/usr/src/RPMS/RPM/i386 (i think that's the right path)
then you can install it with
rpm -ivh /path/to/xine.blah.rpm
