problems with installing a mandrake 8.0 server

Hi I've a test area at home with one machine with linux an another machine with Windows2000.
So I tryed to configure the Linux Server as an FTP Server.
It don't works as I thought.>
I can reach my FTP Server with a FTP-Program (Leech-FTP) without any problems.
But when I try to connect with the Internetexplorer about the FTp-Protokoll I get no connection to the server.
I also can't reach the server with his name. Only over his IP adress even with the FTP-program.

How can I connect whith IE 5 the FTP-Linux Server
and can I see the server in the windows network neighbourhood?

Also I can't connect to the Linux machine with tenet.
How to configure linux to use telnet?

Please Help

telnet:

install the telnetd rpm from your cd, and set disable = no in /etc/xinetd.d/telnet ( i think ).

not sure abuot the IE FTP one...

as for teh network neighbourhood stuff... we that's samba. install from cd, and jump in head first.

you can't reach the server by name as windows has no idea what the server's called. think about it.. how could it know? you should have an erm... c:\winnt\hosts file, which you can edit similar to the linux version. funny how M$ copy linux when it suits them....
