Problems with graphics card driver

My graphics card is radeon 9550 and I have catalyst center. When I try to run it, I get error something like this:
ATI graphics driver isn't installed.

This worked well before messing with xorg.conf (I was trying to change color depth and everything went wrong after restart). Now I can't change settings via xorg.conf, since some options are missing.

please, help this poor newbie!

There may be a backup copy of the conf file in there /etc/X11/?

You can also use the failsafe config file just rename it .
just look under that folder and see if you have the conf1 conf2 etc in there?
I can post mine in here but I do not have an ATI card so?
lets hope some 1 with the same card is here.
good luck

? You name no distro nor many details.

Are you sure you have root privileges? Only root, usually as sudo or su, should be able to edit such files.

A guide to best practice for the next time.

thx. I feel myself so stupid. All what I had to do was open xorg.config thru terminal and copy paste the contents of backup to current xorg which was opened thru terminal... so embarrassing
