Problems with autologin SUSE 9.1
Hi there,
I am a completely begginer at Linux and this forum. I have installed SUSE 9.1 in my old computer. Having had problems with my very old monitor, I used a new one for the installation and then changed to the old one. I had to use the xf86config command with the failsafe boot to configure my monitor, I have also changed vga=normal in my normal booting. Now the autologin is gone, I have to start with the login prompt and then go to the xwindow. I have changed (as root) the login options at the control center, checking the autologin box, but it does not work. Any help? Now I can't switch off the computer from the xwindow either, just logout, how can I swith off from the xwindow or from prompt? Sorry, I am a beginner! |
Hi torpedo,
type shutdown now -h on a root-shell to shut down your system manually. As far as I understand your question, you' like to start your system with a graphical login screen. To achieve this, you should start the system in run-level 5. For security-issues I would recommend, to deactivate the auto-login functionality, but if you want to use it anyway it should work after being configured in the control-center (press "apply" before leaving!). Good luck! |
If you want to log in in Graphical User Mode instead of being in console and then typing 'startx', edit /etc/inittab.
You'll want to change one of the lines that looks like this: Code:
# The default runlevel. (This is just expanding on what littleonion said.) |
Thanks! That's what I was looking for. Excellent forum.
