Question

Hi all,

I just installed Mandrake 8 and am having a small problem when rebooting.

When I try to reboot the system, it will hang. When I do a shutdown and restart, it works fine. I've installed it on three different systems and it will hang in the same place on all three machines. I've tried two different copies thinking that I could possibly have a bad CD burn but it does the same thing with both copies on all machines.

I checked the Mandrake site but there is no mention of this problem. Is anyone else having this problem and is there a fix for it?

Thanks for the help.

Do you mean that it hangs at the command line, asking you for a login? I've found that everytime I've ever installed a Mandrake Linux os, it would default to console mode, instead of graphical mode. Go into failsafe on boot up, and go into configuration defaults, and reset it to graphic mode. That is ofcourse, if this is the problem.....

Mine hangs on shutdows also with 8.1 If I boot without the USB printer than it will shutdown and/or reboot no problem. On shutdown the text messages seem to indicate that it removes the 2 USB ports, then with the message removing USB printer it hangs.

Almost seems like the shutdown is out of order; like the printer should be removede first than the ports. Is there a way to alter the sutdown order.

Any ideas?

Mine hangs on logout from KDE, have to use a console to shut it down with shutdown command or CTL-ALT-Backspace to log off...
