Problems opening Opera
I'm using qvwm 1.1 on Debian woody and I can't get my web browser Opera to open. The first I try to open it, it brings up the box that asks me if I want to start Opera from the last time, or frome a saved session... But no matter what I select, when I click on the Start button to open Opera, nothing happens. If I try to open it from the command line it says, "Activated running instance of Opera." I can type in ps -aux |grep username and see Opera listed here, and then I can kill it. But the next time I try to open Opera, it starts the the same cycle over again.
My friend thought I might have a lockfile that is keeping Opera from opening, but he didn't give any help beyond that. Could this be caused by a lock file? And if so, how can I fix it? Or, is there anything else that could cause this?
I'm pretty new at using linux, so if I say something wrong please forgive me.
Thanks

How old/slow is your hardware -- did you wait long enough?
Did you try Alt-Tab to see if you could see or even activate its window?
In case you're not yet familiar w/ Opera "the box that asks me if I want to start Opera from the last time, or from a saved session" is the normal opening dialog.

I had a similar problem with Opera after upgrading (I think it was to 7.1). I never figured out what the problem was. But, when I upgraded to 8.0, the problem never recurred.
So, if you're not using the latest version of Opera, upgrade might make the problem go away, as it did for me.
Just a thought.
