Unhappy Problems installing ymessenger in RedHat 9

I've been thumbing through google.com and the threads on this site and haven't found a solution yet, so I thought I'd ask. I'm trying to install ymessenger on RedHat 9. I just recently changed from Mandrake 9.2 because I had way too many problems getting it to work. So far RH9 is working decently. Anyway, when I follow the instructions for installation on Yahoo!'s website, i get the error:

error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/bin/ymessenger: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory

I've tried running the installation from the download directory, and I've even created the /usr/bin/ymessenger directory and I get the same error. I've tried changing the permissions to allow installation by typing:

chmod 777 rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm

and that does not help either. I know I've got to be doing something wrong. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.

Also, on a different note, I just got Java to work yesterday, and seems to be working well enough, except on one particular site, it does not load the Java chat environment properly. Could that be something wrong with my set up, or perhaps the site I'm trying to access doesn't support Linux users? Thanks again.

Thank you! However, when I try that, I get:

error: open of rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm failed: Permission denied

At first I thought that I need to change permissions on the file, so I tried both:

chmod 777 rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm

and

chmod +x rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm

where both give me the error:

chmod: changing permissions of `rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm': Operation not
permitted

You have any more suggestions?
