Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I've been thumbing through google.com and the threads on this site and haven't found a solution yet, so I thought I'd ask. I'm trying to install ymessenger on RedHat 9. I just recently changed from Mandrake 9.2 because I had way too many problems getting it to work. So far RH9 is working decently. Anyway, when I follow the instructions for installation on Yahoo!'s website, i get the error:
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/bin/ymessenger: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory
I've tried running the installation from the download directory, and I've even created the /usr/bin/ymessenger directory and I get the same error. I've tried changing the permissions to allow installation by typing:
chmod 777 rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm
and that does not help either. I know I've got to be doing something wrong. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.
Also, on a different note, I just got Java to work yesterday, and seems to be working well enough, except on one particular site, it does not load the Java chat environment properly. Could that be something wrong with my set up, or perhaps the site I'm trying to access doesn't support Linux users? Thanks again.
