Please use code-tags when posting such lengthy output, that makes your post much more readable.

But anyways, did you set the executable flag on the downloaded program?

aus9 10-29-2011 07:28 PM

yeah but I see a number of attempts to download probably manually this package.

1) how did you install it?

2) test if its truly installed with

Code:

apt-cache policy unetbootin
(if not installed try)
sudo apt-get install unetbootin

you can of course use a graphical package manager if you prefer

theKbStockpiler 10-29-2011 07:37 PM

I don't have a lot of Ubuntu experience but it looks like you are trying to install a windows file with Ubuntu's Package Installer which is not going to work because it is not made for linux. If you were booted to windows this would work. I believe that Ubuntu has its own version of Live USB Creator as well so I would just install that using your Package Installer.https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware or http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Software-in-Ubuntu :hattip:

It isn't installed, I couldn't open the installer.

I downloaded the linux installer,
when I tried to open the installer I got that error message.

theKbStockpiler 10-29-2011 10:36 PM

If we take sourgeforce's word for it being a "BIN" file as our Download Manager states then ,

http://www.ehow.com/how_4578189_inst...ntu-linux.htmlor http://www.digitalfacts.net/2011/04/...in-ubuntu.html

What the purpose of a BIN file as opposed to a deb. file I would personally like to know. If you are hell bent on not using your Package Manager This should be a deb. file as it has deb. in the extension unlike the sourgeforce file that has no extension.http://en.sourceforge.jp/projects/sf..._292_i386.deb/

I would assume that is because the file isn't marked as executable, so your system tries to display the file instead of executing, which obviously doesn't work. Make the file executable with
Code:

chmod +x /home/fortunecookie/Downloads/unetbootin-linux-563

Sweet, I guess that worked altough I cannot confirm that yet.
When opening I did got this error:
7z not found. This is required for either install mode.
Install the "p7zip-full" package or your distribution's equivalent.

but then the UNetbootin did open. So I'm not sure if the program works correctly. Will post result after I'm done using the program and mark problem as solved.

Thx!
