Problems installing NTFS on FC6

Hi everyone, this is my first post.

Today I finally made the switch from Windows to Linux, and have had only one problem. I can not load a NTFS partition on my Fedora Core 6 box.

My kernel version is 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 i686

I have been using the command sudo yum install kmod-ntfs

I receive the following error:
Transaction Check Error: package kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 is already installed
file /boot/System.map-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 from install of kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 conflicts with file from package kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6
file /boot/config-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 from install of kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 conflicts with file from package kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6
file /boot/symvers-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.gz from install of kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 conflicts with file from package kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6
file /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 from install of kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 conflicts with file from package kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6

I am new to linux, and have no idea what that means. Can you help me out?

I got it

I got it working by recompiling the kernel and starting again!

Cool This is how I got it working

First try 'yum clean all', see if that fixes it.

Otherwise, try manually re-installing the kernel RPM. This will be on
your FC disks or CD. Look for kernel
kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.i686.rpm.
(use i586 if you do not have a i686 system).

Then go to the directory within the cd-rom and type:
sudo rpm -ivh --force 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.i686.rpm

This should force install. Then try again.

It worked for me. It should be the same deal (i think - i am a newbie) on ubuntoo
