Hi. With VB you delete the virtual-machine (VM) and VMs folders if I remember correctly it asks if you want to remove upon deleting the VM in the GUI, technically you can reuse the virtual hard drive but need to format it on installing Linux... I've always deleted the VM first then running VB says can't find, remove? Then start a new. If you can try some other distros as well. Sorry if I'm not putting enough thought here, best wishes and have fun.

While installing CentOS, at the final step you need to select the list of packages to be installed. This is done either by selecting pre customized groups like Desktop, Software, Server etc or you can manually customize the list of packages you want to install. All these options woud be visible to you if you follow each step nicely before finishing the installation.

There is no magic happening, you must have selected some other group of installation as compared to your last attempt.
