Problems installing ALSA in Redhat 9

When I try to run './configure' to install ALSA in RH 9, I get this in the terminal

[drew@localhost alsa-driver-1.0.6a]$ ./configure
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

Could someone tell me what it means or how to get it working?

it means you are trying to compile alsa without a compiler installed..... install a compiler.

look for add/remove package somewhere in the Hat menu and click on the category of software development (in the caption it will say this group includes things like gcc and variouys other compilers.

This will require the installation CDs
