Problems compiling php with xml enabled

Hi there:
How to compile php with xml support.?
I tried compiling expat from /usr/src/php-devel and it actually added the xml.so to my usr/lib/php/extensions dir but its still not show in my phpinfo page.

I have tried several options with ./configure but not luck so far, any help or redirection to a in depth tutorial apreciated.

Thanks.

Check out the SAMS teach yourself php in 24 hrs book, it has a chapter on instlation and compiling, and refers to apache, mysql and other great config options.

Thanks sckain:

but I've been playing with php for about two years and with Linux for 2 months or so.

This is what I've done so far:
1-Got to the php-devel/extensions/xml
2-phpize
3-./configure --with-expat-dir=/usr/local
4-make make install

I can see xml.so and xmlrpc added to /usr/lib/php/extensions but they dont showup in the phpinfo.

I i tried the ./configure --with-xml it errors me something about some XML functions undeclared and make fails.

Later i did the same again but now with
./configure --with-path-to-phpconfig=/etc/php.ini and it says access denied to the file, i'm running as root of course , so where I'm lost.?

I'm missing something very trivial and obvious for the experienced.
I just need to know the correct steps/commands to get my xml enabled in my PHP.(4.3.3)

I already got runnig Mysql,Proftpd, phpmyadmin and so in my home LAN, xml

Thanks
