problem with wireless on eeepc900HD with slackware 13.0 installed

Wondering if loading a specific module to enable wireless is necessary. Tried using netconfig but doesnt help. I think the answer is getting the correct driver for the wireless card. I am not sure which module or how to get the driver. Thanks for any advice. I love Linux and want to learn as much as possible. Thats why I am fooling around with slackware.

Hi koerner,

yes, getting the right driver is a good place to start! And for folks to help you figure out what driver that might be, please tell us exactly what type of wireless device it is (make, model, onboard or USB, etc..) and please post the output of the following commands:

IF the device is USB, please do:

lsusb

If the device is built in, please do:

lspci -v

And in either case, please do:

ifconfig -a
iwlist
iwconfig

And from those commands (all the above) please post for us the information that pertains to the wireless gadget you are trying to configure.

Welcome to LQ :)

Sasha

I am trying to configure rtl8187se the wireless lan controller (rev 22). When I run lsmod it looks like the module rtl8187se loaded. Maybe all I need to do is edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file?

thanks

Hi,

You should place long data lists or output within the vbcode tags '# or Quote' to make your post cleaner therefore easier to read. The tags are at the top of the reply window. '#' for code and Quote to the left of the '#'.

Look at 'Configuring your network in Slackware' to aid in the network setup.
