Problem with USB Modem - Virginbroadband Huawei e169 to work in Debian

Hi Ive been struggling for the past few days trying to make my usb modem work.

ISP - virginbroadband.com.au
Brand - Huawei e169

I manage to install wvdial and ran wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf. After which I add my the phone number, username and pasword.

It goes as far as CHAT authentication successful then modem hangs up.

Any ideas? Ive searched everywhere for a solution so this is my last hope. Looking forward to hearing from u experts.

Tks.

Hi Glen

Thank you so much. After 2 weeks of trying i finally got it working in less than 10mins. It was just a matter of adding -chap to the /etc/ppp/options file and adding APN - virginbroadband.

Gives new meaning to the phrase "Ask and you shall receive"....thanks again.

Great to see you have it working.

It's a wonder isp's don't have a howto for their hardwares,

I had to do a similar thing 18 months ago with vodafone.au

cheers Glenn
