Problem with update and package manager

Could not initialize the package information

A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:The package virtualbox needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.'

This error message occurred after a failed install of virtualbox. Now I Cannot update. Also I cannot install virtual box. Anyone know how to fix this? Using Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

What action produced this output? What distro are you using? What version?

System>>Administration>>Synaptic Package Manager

Enter your password

There it will tell you if you have a broken pack, If so click on Edit>>Fix Broken Packages

If not you can do a search for what you want and install it from there.

(You may have to uninstall it first.)

When I try to open Synaptic I get this message:

E: The package virtualbox needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report.

Synaptic then closes.

These are the error messages I get when I try to open Synaptic.

Why would you suggest that an LQ member go elsewhere for help? JustLinux and Ubuntu forums are fine places but LQ is huge and has a wealth of info and very knowledgeable places. So let's try really hard not to suggest people leave LQ eh?
