problem with starting new session
 

Hi,
I am using mandrake 10. When i choose to start new session, my desktop contantly flickers untill i press ctrl alt f7.

I need to edit the proftpd conf file.It needs root access. In windows, we can choose something like run-as. Is it possible in linus to edit it when i am logged in as some other user (i dont want to logout)?

Can some body help me with this....

in console try su (to login as root)
or there is some other way with
sudo command (for just one command) but this you have to cinfgure first.
