The standard practice is to download an iso image file, copy to a CD/DVD with your CD/DVD burner, put it the drive, boot with it and when it loads, click to begin the installation. So, why a zip file? The link you give above explains how to burn an image (upper left of page). If you have these directories and files, have you tried opening them to see if you have instructions in the README file? I'm not really sure what you are trying to do or why.

thanks for replay.

I have some questions:
what does ( image ) mean here ? (iso image file) ?
what is the name of file that I must be burn it into CD ?
Why there is no easy way to setup Mandriva ?

best regards.

the file name will end with .iso its a cd image file. just google mandravia one 2009 iso and you'll find several mirrors. or here's a direct link

http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/c...cdrom-i586.iso

you'll need to burn this image to cd, most cd burning programs will have an option for "burn image" basically an ISO is an exact copy of the CD in a single file.

then all you need to do is put the newly created cd in your computer and restart

any questions just let us know, include the program and operating system you are using to make the cd

it can be frustrating at first, but you'll find it to be quite simple

my first time i used Mandriva, and linux in general, i actually bought a copy just for simplicity, but i've learned how incredibly easy it is.

if you choose to go this route OSdisc.com is a good option

YOu can also run off of a USB as you want to do, but that's much more complicated as you'll need to edit your BIOS to actually boot off of USB, I would highly recommend running off of CD first, before you get frustrated.

If you need to run off of USB, perhaps no CD drive available today, and you just want to try Linux, you might want to try DSL embedded (Damn Small Linux) simply download the zip http://gulus.usherbrooke.ca/pub/dist...0-embedded.zip and extract to your USB and double click dsl-base from within Windows exlporer
