problem with screen resolution in fedora 8

i am using fedora 8. after installing some screen saver softwares which are inbuilt i am facing some resolution problems. problems are as follows

1. the resolution is not constant. that is if i chose some resolution in my case 1280X768 it changes to another one1360X768 after restart.

2. refresh rate is only showing 60Hz with no other option. with my system 1280X768 resolution and 85 Hz refresh rate gives no flickering.

please help.

Couple of questions: how do you change the screen resolution (edit config file, gui, etc.) and what driver are you using (proprietary driver, nvidia, ati, etc.)

Can you clarify these a bit.
1) Did you mean that the screen saver changes the resolution or did you mean that your resolution changes when you boot your computer?
2) What is the graphical desktop you are using (Gnome, KDE, ...)?

In any case, you can bypass the resolution and refresh rate setting by modifying your x configuration file directly. Edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf by using help provided by the XOrg.
