Problem with reading SD cards on OpenSUSE 11
 

Hi, I've ben using OpenSUSE since November n I'm lovin it!! I've also got completely rid of Vista from my system as it irritated me with a virus!!
So I run Windows through VirtualBox now!!

Well, my problem is that I inserted one of my SD cards and I could read the data on it for a while....but when I tried copying data from it....it was suddenly unreadable according to SUSE...
After that, whenever I insert my card.....just 4 files with weird filenames are shown!! And the surprising part is linux detects that the overall size of the 4 files as 7.9GB even tho the card is just 4GB....the filenames are comprised of wierd symbols...

For your info....I'm talkin bout a 4GB SanDisk microSDHC card.
Its not a problem with my card reader or the card...I'm sure bout it!! The card read fine on my friend's Windows based PC...

I dont hav an idea how to post screenshots over here....if u guys could tell me how, I'd post a couple of shots!

I'm just startin to get used to linux.....learnt many new stuff!! Itz an excitin journey....hope I dont have to install windows again!!Its been a month since I'm on OpenSUSE

When you have inserted the card, what does linux report about the filesystem etc? right-click the volume in konqueror, go to properties and it should tell you more. You do use KDE and not gnome, right?

Also, when you plug it in (make sure you switch it to read-only, do a dmesg, check if there are any errors. If there are none, check the partition. dmesg will report the device/partition name, something like /dev/sdc, once you have that do:

fsck -NV /dev/sdc1

What does fsck report? -N means that he will only perform a dry run, won't change anything on the device. V is for verbose ...
