Problem With My Aspire One Acer Linpus Linux

Before I proceed on to everything, here are some information about my laptop's system.

The problem of this laptop is when I try to play an .avi file, there's only sound but no picture. Can anyone help me? I only have Media Master pre-installed on my laptop.
Another question, is it possible for me to download Skype for my laptop and upgrade my firefox?

you may need to install the win32 codec package.

i would assume you could upgrade firefox, why not download it and try? Just download it from firefox.com, un-tar-gz, and run the binary.

How do I install win32 codec?
I'm very new to this system, that's why I have no idea on how to use it.
And I have no idea how to un-tar-gz it.
