problem with mouse in x

Hi everyone,

I have a fresh install of debian. I did the reconfiguration for xfree86 beacuse the defaults were not correct (800x600 max res...). But now when i boot my computer, there's an error message that says that /dev/mouse is not present. I checked and it's true. Also, if I have a usb mouse, should I put USB in the protocol section of the config file? or just leave it to "auto" ?

What do I do??

Thank you very much!

You may want to us IMPS/2 for the mouse protocol, and /dev/input/mice for the device.
