Problem with kubuntu

hello all,

recently i get a kubuntu CD from shipit.

when i use it as a live CD, it can't play mp3 & other various multimedia formats.
how i can enable all multimedia formats in kubuntu 8.04?
plz. tell me anyone in details.

is there any solution to enable all formats in live CD?

how can i install *.deb packages in kubuntu?

i already using mandriva & i can install *.rpm files. they r easy.

.deb packages "generally".. install pretty well. Its best to use synaptic though, sometimes .debs work, sometimes they dont. Installing via the repositories, rarely fails (at least in my experience)..

As for playing mp3s, etc.. Add the medibuntu repository, and run "sudo apt-get install w32codecs

As far as I know kubuntu/ubuntu live does not work that way. I have found another live distro that does. I remember that it was Knoppix type distro. one of these, I think. Damn Small, Puppy, Fat Puppy or ZenLive. That distro was made to go on a cdrom-rw and could also be used with a harddrive to store personal preferences and changes. I gave up on it because she (my wife) did not want to wait that long for her cd to boot. I wanted to have one for her way and one for mine. Now I just configure the Kunbuntu/Unbuntu to her specs so I dont have to hear about it.

In Kunbuntu just stick with what the adept package manager. You can use apt-get to access debian packages, but some may not work well with KDE. If you insist on doing this as in terinal as sudo or command line as root with no GUI.

Adept will search for audio-video CODEC, Just select the ones that fit the discriptions ie. divx, mpeg4, mp3...
