problem with keyboard

i'm having a bit of a problem with my Suse Linux 8.0

I'm working with a USB mouse. sometimes the mouse isn't working after booting. since this happens only once in a while i just go to YaST, hardware, select mouse model and the mouse works again.

this morning however my keyboard just crashed when i did this. now every time i boot and the x-server starts i get the following message in my console:

insmod: insmod: char-major-9 failed
insmod: insmod: a module named st already exists
insmod: insmod: char-major-9 failed

these messages appear when i don't hook up my mouse. if i do that it just says that finding the mouse timed out.

after this the keyboard just stops working. can someone please tell me how i can fix this because i don't have a clue.

greetz Michael.
