Problem with KDM

I recently installed PCLinuxOS and was quite happy until today. When I try to log in from KDM's login page, the screen goes black, then blue, then returns to the login page. I can login to the gui by doing a console login then startx. This problem is only with my profile, I can login to root or guest account with KDM without any problems. Also, when I logout, I do not get the option to turn off PC or reboot, only end session or cancel. End session returns me to a console. Any help would be appreciated as I am quite new to Linux (3 months).

Have you checked your log files, there might be some information in there, though it sound like it's something to do with your user profile.

Do you not get the option to turn off or reboot when you log in as your user through the console, or whenever you log into X. X disables that feature for security reasons for non root users in some configurations.

This happened to me once after I'd been messing around with too many KDE settings. I couldn't correct it, so I ended up creating a temporary user, logging in as that, copying over all the data I needed from the b0rked account, deleting the b0rked account, creating another ... ... blah blah.
