Unhappy Problem with Installing Oracle Linux 6.5 in windows 7 (32 bit)

Hi,

I've just join the forum and could use some help with issues relating to installing Oracle Linux 6.5 in Windows 7(32bit). An error pop up as below:

Welcome to Oracle Linux Server i386

Failed to read directory /mnt/runtime/var : Input/Output error.

Been working on this installation all day and had to face different type of errors while doing it. Need help with solving the error above. Thanx.

I'd like to suggest CentOS 6.5 if you're having trouble with OEL...

Your error says it all-the installer cannot read /mnt/runtime/var.

Are you installing in virtualbox or vmware? I've never had this issue installing Red Hat, or CentOS on vbox or vmware or KVM. I've never installed OEL, though. I assume it uses roughly the same installer/UI that RHEL and CentOS do. How far along is this error message?

I do see some redhat bugs that are long since resolved for this issue:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505880
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=552777

And even though it's older, I think you should read the following thread (from this very same site) on this issue: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-image-136598/

Wink

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have Redhat linux installed and had no issues. I'm trying to install Oracle Linux in Virtualbox coz I will also be installing oracle database 11g as well. I was told by a colleague that the Oracle Linux has all the necessary packages which required by oracle database software. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right though. I will check on the thread you'd suggested. Thanx a bunch!

I can tell you that all of my customers run Oracle RAC and Oracle 10/11/12 on RHEL 5 and 6. No need for futzing around with Oracle FUD.
