Problem with INIT5 mode in RHEL5
 
Hi all,
I am facing a problem with init:5 mode in rhel5.

Problem description:
I am using my computer as dual boot with Windows2003 server & RHEL5
RHEL5 in my system is working correctly in command mode. But I am unable to initialize Xwindows in rhel5. When ever I am trying to run the command "startx",monitor is getting switched off. Kindly help me in resolving this problem.

Monitor settings:
Model -hcm581,
make: HCL,
Adaptertype: Standard VGA Graphics adapter

I have had that problem when the screen resolution has been too high for the monitor or it is a widescreen monitor. check xorg.conf to make sure you have the correct monitor and display settings. If you're not sure then just set it to something very low to make sure that is not the case.

also check /var/log/Xorg.0.log ( or could be XFree86.0.log) file to see if it has returned any errors.
