Problem with dual boot.. everything else done correctly...

I'm running Vista, shrink a partition on a second HD and installed Ubuntu 8. I got to the point where Ubuntu started fine, and Vista(longhorn) was in the boot menu. Problem is, Vista wouldn't boot at all. Selecting Vista to boot versus Ubuntu, nothing happens at all, and the screen immediately flips back to the boot menu again. Any help with this? I used the Vista CD and repaired the boot, and now, it boots into Vista fine.
I've looked everywhere so far, and see nothing quite like this problem.
Thanks.

As you say you have repaired your vista! Is there a problem yet ?

Sorry, I guess I assumed something would be known here.. the loader is gone. The system is now back to the state prior to Ubuntu being installed, with the Ubuntu installation still untouched. I am guessing I need something to boot with. I am currently going to download the BC loader for Vista and see if that helps. Just wanted any other's opinion otherwise.

When you repaired vista it wrote over your Grub bootloader in the mbr so now you will have to go to a convoluted process to boot Ubuntu from vista as described here: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dualboot_vi...lled_first.htm

This is a very common problems. Normally the Grub bootloader detects a windows install and sets up a stanza/entry in the menu.lst file for it so something went wrong. You can either do the process above or re-install Grub to the mbr and make an entry for vista. Before you can get a correct entry for Grub (if you re-install it) we will need your partition information from the 'fdisk -l' command (run as root).
