need to run Xconfigurator
check graphics driver, check setup resolutions

Mara 06-09-2002 01:15 PM

Use Xconfigurator end enter the values you have in your monitor manual.

The cause of the 'waves' in such are becuase during installation you must of entered the wrong values for your monitor. ALWAYS (if possible) test your settings before continuing.

However, If you get the waves when your trying to install and the monitor does 'work' either enter 'text' or 'vgalow' er... should say (press f1). If that STILL doesn't work, your better off just getting a new monitor cuase anything below 800x600 is death. 800x600 to 1024x768 is pushing it ;)

If your already installed and ready to go, do what theys guys suggest. Run that via console.

tried all that didnt work
graphics card is pro savage 3
resolution 1024x768:(

Run Xconfigurator, configure it as generic svga. It MUST work. Then you can experiment with other settings.

I have mdk 8.2 too, and the XFdrake should be the
program to use. As Xconfigurator is not standard
on my box, though on my redhat box, its the default program
when you know what to choose you can start
XFdrake --noauto --expert and at first choose a
colordepth of 16 to try.
Good luck

back again

hi i am back again:( tried all that didnt work:( :( :( although the waves have stopped and now the scrolling is fine.
i have double -triple checked and my configurator settings are perfect. the machine works perfectly with windows(dual boot)

In fact everything about mandrake is absolutely perfect except these lines, they ONLY appear when the m/c is processing or engaged in something else like changing wallpaper playing XIMMS ,or ANYTHING of the sort, the more applications r running the more the lines...........they do not appear on the screen saver!!!...............its begining to be quite irritating

i had also thied RHB it had no such problem but i like mandrake more than RH so wanna stick with it

PLEASE(x100)somebody help!!!!!!!!!!

Mara 06-16-2002 04:09 PM

Maybe try a different resolution and look if you still have this problem.

kinshuk_sahaya 06-18-2002 01:58 PM

that too didnt work:( :( :( :( :( :can u believe it?????:( :( :( :( :(

mrGee 06-18-2002 03:49 PM

Hi
Maybe putting mem=nopentium after the
append=" " line in lilo.conf, and running
lilo afterwards ( have to be root) is an idea?
Its to be used in combi with AMD processor and
it solved an Nvidia problem for me.
In Redhat everything worked? Maybe install that
again, printout some of the config files, like
modules.conf, XF86config-4, lilo.conf and see if
they put some extra/other options in it?
Are you installing from a downloaded iso 8.2 ?
then you should always checksum it to see nothing
is corrupted.
At the moment no other ideas :(
since i never worked with your type graph card.

kinshuk_sahaya 06-21-2002 09:14 AM

that too didnt work(its a shareware /freeware c.d. version).
the config in RH is same as here and here too it matches the system.

n.b. the problem was present even during installation(if it helps)

anyway if I forget later........................THANK YOU all, a LOT for all the help ..................................thanx again

Mara 06-21-2002 03:45 PM

There's one method you can try now. Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, find lines with "HorizSync" and "VertRefresh" and enter there values from your monitor manual.

kinshuk_sahaya 06-23-2002 01:56 PM

tried that in the begining only:( ...................................obviously didnt work

Mara 06-23-2002 02:43 PM

If still nothing, maybe think about X upgrade?
