problem with desktop icons

hi all
i have ubuntu 10.4
i have the following problem:
the desktop icons disappears
and the menu when i use the mous right click too
also, when i try to open any folder i get the following message:

Quote:

Failed to execute child process "kfmclient" (No such file or directory)

thnx for any help before reinstalling the os

Are you running Ubuntu or Kubuntu? kfmclient seems to the a KDE/Konqueror thing.

I suspect you can deal with this without reinstalling the entire system, but we need a little more information about your setup.

Shot in the dark: Run Synaptic and check whether it reports an broken packages in the status line at the bottom of the Synaptic window.
