Unhappy problem with desktop effect in fedora 9

every time i enable desktop effect i cannot open any text file and the terminal. what is wrong here? i installed the driver for my nvidia 280 from the nvidia site. is these an driver issue? it was working fine before when i was using 8800 gt and using the "yum install akmod-nvidia" command.

You should not use both the Nvidia installer from nvidia.com and the akmod-nvidia from livna.org. If you do you will run into problems. The akmod does add some configuration options that are suited for Fedora.
