2nd monitor is 20 inch. But I cannot set it higher resolution rather than 1024 x 768

What should I do for my OS to detect my monitor?

Hello,

What kind of monitor do you have exactly? Most likely, either your monitor doesn't support any resolutions higher that what you gave us, or you are using the drivers. Could you give us the output of lsmod?

Cheers,

Josh

I have had this problem since Karmic, only installed on my laptop not my desktop. I could not get the resolution of the second monitor above the native resolution of my monitor. Although i didn't try configuring configuring xorg.conf by hand I did use the GUI to no avail. Fedora doesn't have that problem. No matter what I hook up to the second output, LCD or 60" flat screen, on my laptop or desktops, they show up and I can configure the resolution as I see fit. If 1024x768 is the highest native resolution that your laptop support, then you are more than likely stuck. You might have some luck configuring xorg.conf by hand, I don't know if that will work as I installed Fedora after finding this problem.
