touch :cannot touch '/var/lock/subsys/kudzu ' : Read-only file system
For some reason the partition /var resides on can't be written to. Usually this happens when a forced shutdown is done, then the system has no chance to flush and synchronise data and write the "clean" flag. Since the boot-up filesystem check defaults to *not* running fsck unless you say "yes" to it it won't be corrected. What you could do is boot into runlevel 1 or boot your rescue or live cd, umount /var if necessary, and run fsck on it and do a proper reboot. Most likely that will fix things.
