Problem Viewing Windows Files using USB-Live Distro
Hello,
I am having an issue with a live USB Distro of Ubuntu 9.10. On the Laptop that I used to create the USB-Live Version of Ubuntu I can boot to the usb drive, load the linux system and once booted i can access and move files from my OS directory (windows) to a different USB Pen drive. I am using this to retreive Pictures, documents, etc from laptops that are not working properly, locked out, etc... The problem is, when I boot this USB Live on a different laptop the OS Directory does NOT show up in the file manager. why would it show up on one laptop and not on a different one. I am not sure what I am missing. Please help.
Might be a number or reasons. The drive could be password locked, encrypted, or simply in a state with errors or you don't have drivers to support that drive.
Can you see the partitons or drives in other tools?
both laptops are from Gateway computers and both are running windows vista home premium 64 bit. i was previously able to access and see the o/s drives when booting from the cdrom, which is now non-functional.
If you used that USB to access both systems and you know it did work. Now you can not access either then we can guess some issue with the usb installation.
Might get a new flash drive and make a new linux on usb.
It works on One Laptop but not the other. the one that it does not work on was previously accessible by using a live cd version . now the cdrom is broken and I made the distro on a USB pendrive. The pen drive works fine on my originating laptop which is also a gateway system running the same operating systems. it boots fine and shows the O/S Drive and files can be accessed and copied to another USB Pendrive. When I boot on the other laptop it runs fine but does not show the O/S Drive. what would cause the drive to be invisible now. nothing has changed on the laptop with the exceptionof the broken CD Rom
