solution
You need to have internet access on for the following steps.
Also, configure on other computer the 3G pen not to ask PIN.
First one needs to know how to add new components to Linpus Linux on the AAO computer.
Press ALT and F2 at the same time and accept "Terminal" pressing enter.
There write the commands:
sudo su
passwd (to choose a root password needed next)
xfce-setting-show
there should appear a window with some large icons;
press the one "Desktop" and inside the tab "Behavior" and mark the option:
Show Desktop menu on right click
close it all and at the regular desktop, at any grey position,
press the right button;
on that menu go please to system, and add/remove app.
search for "3G"
mark for install "comgt" a UMTS/GPRS command line tool
search for "ppp"
you should have these marked/install:
DataCardAppPkg
sync-serial
ppp
system-config-network-tui
system-config-network
wvdial
get those you did not have and install
close it all, and get again the right menu,
and it should exist on the network menu a "Mobile Partner" program.
Connect your 3G pen/modem now and use the "Mobile Partner" program
it should detect after a while the SIM of the modem;
on the tool / options menu, go on the profile managment and create
a new one with the APN Static with the string:
internet (for TMN at Portugal)
the access number is *99# (at least at Portugal)
the protocol is PAP (for TMN at Portugal)
it can be on the local language like "ferramentas/opcoes, gestao de perfil"
on the "Mobile Partner" program change the network type to
WCDMA prefered
and automatic on the other option
back to the main menu of "Mobile Partner" program and connect
the 3g modem LED should stop blinking and a line stating
"connecting" (or "A ligar") should have the Cancel button ready
you have know Internet access; the connecting box will not close
or change to connect :-) at least on my case, but there is access.
this was teste with a Huawei E220 TMN 3G pen modem at Portugal
