Is this a live CD?

If this is not a live CD then none of those messages make any sense. Mounting /dev on /root/dev would not make sense if this is an installed system and Busybox should not be part of a normal system startup.

Download a Live CD such as Slax or Knoppix or boot to your Ubuntu CD as a live CD and take a look at your hard drive with that.

Verify that you can mount your hard dive and look at the files on it, then report back.
