Unhappy Problem starting up with GRUB

OK were to start...

I was a user of windows xp on one hardrive (C) and had a separate hardrive as a slave drive (D). Both NTFS format.

I bought a third hardrive and put linux on (suse 9.2) which I swaped with my slave drive so I could duel boot wich works great.

The problem is when I take the linux hardrive out and put the slave drive back to use with xp it boots up and stops at the GRUB prompt were I cant type anything so I need to re-install GRUB.

Which brings me to my question is it ok to re-install GRUB on my linux drive instead of my windows drive and will this let me boot eather linux or xp depending on what drive is in?

hope this isnt to confusing.

cheers D3

You can install GRUB on any disk as long as it is the primary boot disk set in you rBIOS. You could install GRUB to your Linux disk and then, when you wanted to use Linux and GRUB you would set this in your BIOS. You should run fixmbr froom recovery console from Windows, to where you get by inserting the Windows XP CD and choosing Recovery console at the menu.

This should work theoreticaly
