Problem shutting down Ubuntu 12.04.2

hi,
i am having dell laptop inspiron 1545 series, broadcomm network driver.

the Ubuntu os has been updated with latest updates. but still when i shut down the laptop, the system hangs after few seconds. Ubuntu's screen of shutdown, remains static. So I am forced to take the battery out!!!.
Interestingly this problem is occasional. sometimes shutdown is clean and sometimes not.
Please help in this regard. Thanking you,

ntu929.

Are you using systemd for boot/shutdown (init)?

If so, it is inherent in the design that it fails... sometimes.

You have to be using an init. It is the first process started, and the last process existing as it halts. If it isn't there, the system has crashed.

You need to check the system log for details.
