problem playing multimedia in fedora 11

hi. i am working with fedora 11 64bit system. i was working with fedora 9 before and playing my videos using mplayer and realplayer. when i turned to fedora 11. i couldn't install mplayer due to the following error

i tried to install real player using the rpm package. the installation goes fine, but the program refused to start. the symbol is added to the sound and video application list, but clicking on the icon doesn't produce any thing.
i tried fedora 10, but i found the same problem. what is the problem exactly. and why this problem still exist (from fedora 10 to fedora 11)?

You don't need to compile packages from source on fedora. The recommended way would be to use fedora repositories + rpmfusion.
Here's a guide how to set up Fedora 11.

thank you sycamorex. but it happened. next time i will try the upgrade option. but what about the media problem?

A fresh install is usually safer than an upgrade. The fact that you can't get the sound working is most probably related to pulse-audio. A lot of people complain about it. Either try to install all the pulseaudio config tools and try to play with them or uninstall pulseaudio and use alsa (while uninstalling pulseaudio be careful not to uninstall half of kde/gnome as a dependency).

But anyway, follow the tutorial I posted above, install all the necessary packages using yum/yumex and then we'll see.

the problem is that the sound is working fine because the log in tone plays when i log in. could the problem because that the system is 64 bit? the last one i have been using (fedora 9) was 32 bits system.

thanks sycamorex. how can i do that?. in fedora i just use mplayer and real player. mplayer failed to be installed producing the error presented earlier. real player installed successfully but refuse to start when clicking in its icon?
