Hi!!
I have instaled ubuntu 8.04 dual boot with vista! the first time I reboot the pc it was evrythink ok but when the update were instaled and I had to reboot the pc, on the boot screen I had the ubuntu selection repeated 2 times,four selections and then windows vista!!!!!
Can someone said if it is a problem and what I have to do????

Hi there,

From what I know, you don't have any problem. You said that you made some updates. I believe you just udpate the whole system without looking at it too much (don't worry, I do the same thing). In the updates, there must have been an updated version of the kernel that was intalled.

Once you reboot the machine, you have the option between windows, and the two kernel versions of Linux. Just keep with the latest of it (the one the highest number), which should be the default option. Let it boot and it should work perfectly.

To complete the little story, there might be some more kernel updates. Your Linux operating system will keep the last two versions, mostly as a security measure. If the updated kernel is an experimental (not too stable) version, there might still be some bugs to it. Therefore, in this case, you can always choose to boot from the older version.

Hi.

When I first updated my Ubuntu system, i noticed that too: there was installed one more version of the Linux kernel on my machine. So I was not worried, until I updated more and more times: I updated 4 times since I installed the 8.04 version, and now I have 4 different versions of kernel installed on my computer.

Is anything wrong going on?
