Problem mounting USB flash memory
I recently purchased a cheap MP3 player that is also useable as a USB flash drive (256mb). Works great in Windows. It is "driverless" and requires no software to operate, just drag and drop. It is just a Walmart brand (ilo) but it is good enough for me.
Anyway, I thought that because it required no driver or software in Windows it would work in Linux. Maybe that was wrong. This is what dmesg has to say about it: subfs: unsuccessful attempt to mount media (256) Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage USB Mass Storage support registered. usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using address 10 usb 1-5: control timeout on ep0out usb 1-5: control timeout on ep0out usb 1-5: device not accepting address 10, error -110 usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using address 11 usb 1-5: control timeout on ep0out usb 1-5: control timeout on ep0out usb 1-5: device not accepting address 11, error -110 and the output of dmesg ends there. I am a Linux newbe and have no idea what to do about that. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I want to stop using Windows and move just to Linux by the end of this year but I have a lot to learn. |
Anyone? No one has any idea what this could be? Or does everyone already know except me, and this question was too dumb to post?

ILO mp3 player
I'm using mepis w/2.6.10 kernel and I got the ILO to work.
However, I'm not proficient @ Linux either. Mine mounts as a scsi device (sda1), so I think you have to have scsi emulation enabled (someone correct me if I'm wrong) which means you may have to recompile your kernel for that feature. So it DOES work w/Linux. The ILO we have is actually for my son, and it went out about 6 weeks after we got it. Not sure if he mistreated it or not. Just swapped it out for another one - its really a great value - I've also used it as a usb drive to transfer some files from windows to linux. It worked great. Sorry I don't have experience w/other distributions to help you out. |
