problem mounting external hdd

Hi!
Could anybody help me mounting an external hdd to Ubuntu 9.04?

(Don't know if I 've done anything wrong, but there's no reply to the "fdisk -l" command)

thanks in advance

I'm assuming it's USB? Try running the command lsusb as root and seeing whether it's seen there.
