when i'm trying to install vlc using "yum install vlc" it shows missing dependency like mentioned below,
vlc-0.9.9a-5.el5.rf.i386 from rpmforge has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by package vlc-0.9.9a-5.el5.rf.i386 (rpmforge)
vlc-0.9.9a-5.el5.rf.i386 from rpmforge has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: libQtCore.so.4 is needed by package vlc-0.9.9a-5.el5.rf.i386 (rpmforge)

I don't use an rpm based system. I use a deb based system. I can give you the packages names for that but you need to check them out for your own system. Surely yum (or whatever it's called) has a way of indicating what file is found in what package. If not, switch to a deb based system.
