Problem installing ubuntu on IBM 320 dual pentium

If I install ubuntu 5.10 on this dual pentium box it only installs a single processor.

If I run knoppix it uses both processors.

Is there a version of ubuntu which will fire up both processors?

You need to use the SMP (symmetric multiprocessor) kernel. Check around in the repositories -- you should be able to apt-get it if it isn't installed.

Hi, welcome to LQ,

In 5.10 you'd have to choose an SMP kernel explicitly; 6.06
and 6.10 will support it out of the box. I'd *highly* recommend
an upgrade to either 6.06 (gives long term support) or 6.10
(latest and greatest, but will force a dist-upgrade sometime
soon, just like 5.10 does).

Cheers,
Tink

Thanks guys. I have a CD on order, so when it arrives it should fix the problem.

Unfortunately in South Africa, downloading is a problem due to severe capping of DSL usage .
