Problem installing Ubuntu 6.10
im new to Linux and recently got the Ubuntu 6.10 distribution
i downloaded it, burned it to a cd, and booted the computer with it in the drive.
the main menu comes up and when i select "run or install Ubuntu"
a loading bar goes back and forth for a while and then the screen goes black.
thats it. it just stays like that until i reboot
i tried using the safe graphics mode
i tried Ubuntu 6.06
i tried changing which graphics card it boots from
all of these gave me the same results
i have 2 monitors, my main one is on a NVidea GeForce FX 5200
my other one is on an S3 Trio32/64 monitor card
my mother board is a Biostar Via P4M266A/8235
i have 512 MB ram and an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.6GHz
my hard drives are a 160GB Seagate Barracuda ST3160812A
and the other one, which i want to install Linux to, is 20BG
WDC WD400BB-00FJA0
both of those are NTFS
there are no error messages
im thinking its a compatibility issue with my hardware
please let me know if u have any ideas
thanks
