Problem installing suse 10.1 retail version

i have tried to install this version a few times and the same thing happens every time. i change the bios to boot from the cd-rom. it boots from the disk. i start the instalation. at the end of the istallation it should got to a screen so that i can enter a host and domain name but instead it reeboots from this point. i have xp on this harddrive but this version of suse shrinks the windows partition for a multi boot system. im guessing that the problem may be in my hardware but that is just a guess. i have a pent3, 512mb ram, maxtor ata133hdd, lightscribe dvd-rw, netgear ethernet card,8 in 1 cardreader. i'm not sure about the motherboard but the bios version is phoenixnet which has no update that i can find. any help with this problem is appreciated. tired of being a slave to windows and would like to do things my way.

hardware

I have had issues when trying to install Suse (and other distros) that sound like your problem. In my case it was the CD/DvD drive. I found this hard to believe, I mean it had worked "so far" during the installation, but when, in desperation I tried using a different CD drive, everything worked fine. I tested this several times, re-installing again and again - each time I went back to the first drive, the install failed.

I'm not saying this is so in your case, but check out the compatibility of your drive with linux.
